Scott’s bio
Scott Greenwood brings over 35 years of higher education experience to his role as a consultant for CMAC. Scott has an extensive background in all aspects of higher education including student affairs, academic affairs, development, and alumni engagement. In addition, he has worked in a variety of different educational settings ranging from small private to large public universities - including several of the leading research institutions in the world. Scott, who recently concluded a tenure as the Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement and Development and Interim Chief Engagement Officer for Duke University, brings a good understanding of the importance of all types of institutions as well as a deep knowledge of the unique ways each of the areas in higher education work with one another.
Scott believes that the key to success is for institutional partners to fully understand what makes their institution and their programs unique in class – and to then build their engagement program around accentuating that uniqueness. As a senior leader in several different institutions Scott has been able to put that belief into action. He is a strategic thinker who also knows what it takes to operationalize a vision.
His work experience has taken him from student affairs work at Seattle University to Willamette University. At Willamette he served in both student affairs as well as university development. From Willamette, Scott served as the Dean of Student Life at Centenary College of Louisiana where he also served on the Presidents Senior Staff. Scott left Centenary College to move to Duke University and worked as the Chief Operating Officer for the Duke Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) which was part of the Provost’s area of responsibility. After working for Duke TIP, Scott was given the opportunity to lead the alumni program at his graduate school alma mater, Oregon State University, by serving as Associate Vice President for Alumni Affairs and Executive Director of the Alumni Association – once again serving on the President’s Senior team. Scott returned to Duke in 2012 to serve first as the Chief Operating Officer for Duke Alumni Affairs and then as Associate Vice President for Alumni Engagement and Development – where he oversaw both operational and key engagement areas. Scott recently concluded a stint as Associate Vice President and Interim Chief Engagement Officer for Duke Alumni Engagement and Development.
In all his work Scott has successfully engaged with his colleagues and helped to create opportunities for building programs committed to serving their constituents. He has an ability to learn quickly about an organization and to see opportunities for building best in class programs. In addition to offering his insights as a consultant, Scott also serves an executive coach helping individuals understand what they want and how to achieve success.
