Barney Ellis-Perry, brings over thirty years of experience in advancement in support of his client’s needs. Always curious about what could be, Barney has often found himself at the intersection of innovation and pragmatic strategy. Obsessed by impact metrics, personalized engagement technology and the power of high performing teams, Barney enjoys working with clients on the art of the possible.
As an innovator Barney has contributed to the development of many important ideas in higher education advancement, from alumni engagement outcome metrics, to dual goal campaigns to the current move to meaningfully integrate alumni engagement and annual giving.
Barney’s approach to consulting is grounded in his work on the front lines of fundraising and engagement in both higher education and healthcare. Currently Barney is CEO of the Nanaimo and District Hospital Foundation.
Prior to moving back to Canada Barney was the Associate Vice Chancellor for Alumni Engagement and Annual Giving at Vanderbilt University where he (with the support of Chris Marshall) developed a new strategy to fully integrate the alumni relations and annual giving functions in a unique manner. He has served in similar roles at the University of California Irvine and the University of British Columbia.
A seasoned consultant, Barney was the Senior Vice President for Alumni Relations at Grenzebach Glier and Associates in Chicago. There he worked with clients in higher education around the world to advance their alumni engagement and fundraising programs using strategic planning, engagement metrics and more. Previously, he was a partner in a consulting company serving a variety of non-profits in Vancouver Canada.
A native of Canada, Barney currently lives in Nanaimo Canada and Long Beach California.
He was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012 by Queen Elizabeth II and Canada’s prime minister in recognition of his community service and engagement.
